The Shwe Dagon. This sacred shrine of Buddhism is
of dainty bell-shaped form whose apex is surmounted by a
graceful pinnacle of wrought iron overlaid with gold, and
studded with precious stones. The whole effect of this
wonderful Burmese pagoda, described by Edwin Arnold
as a pyramid of fire, is indeed a glorious spectacle as it
blazes beneath an Indian sun.
