“SCOTTISH CLANS."
(Regd.] Postcard 9401.
ART PUBLISHERS TO THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING & QUEEN.
The Campbell. This clan was the most powerful in
Scotland, and is closely bound up with the history of the
nation. The head is the Duke of Argyll (called MacCallum
More), and for centuries the policy of the Argyll family
was predominant. In the Stuart troubles they threw their
whole influence on the side of the House of Hanover. The
present head is brother-in-law of King Edward VII. The
family seat is Inveraray Castle. Their war cry was
“Cruachan,” the name of a mountain near Loch Awe, and
their badge “Wild Myrtle.” Their fighting force was
about 5,000. “The Campbells are Coming" is a well-
known march.
