Olde Egremont Tavern, dating from 1730 and restored in 1931
by Major Hugh Smiley, stands by the winding road of a Berk-
shire village little touched by the passing of time. Its unique
Blue Grill overlooks a restored “old swimmin' hole” in the
mountain brook at the foot of shady lawns. In the quaint Cel.
lar Grill are a huge stone fireplace and cauldron, of ancient
usage, while from the adjoining modern kitchen are served
the foods which have made the Tavern known far and wide.
Living rooms, pine room and bedrooms of real comfort, steam-
heated in winter, are furnished in early American, including
many antiques. One of those places the “initiated” seek out
for a delicious lunch or dinner, or to spend a week-end or long-
er time in the quiet charm of its homelike atmosphere.
