THE TOUR SAINT-JACQUES, is a handsome square
Gothic tower, 175 feet in height, erected in 1508 - 22, which
stands in the centre of a charming square. It is the
sole relic of the ancient church of St. James la Boucherie
which was sold and demolished in 1709, the tower being
now used as an observatory. In the hall on the ground
floor is a statue of Pascal, who is said to have conducted
his experiments in atmospheric pressure from the summit
of the tower.
