The River Rouge Plant of the Ford Motor Company
covers 1,100 acres, employs over 40,000 men, and is
still growing. Two blast furnaces produce 1,000 tons of
pig iron daily, and storage bins hold 2,000,000 tons of
iron ore. Here is operated the largest foundry in the
world, pouring 1,800 tons of castings daily. Coke ovens
produce 1,600 tons of coke per day besides 400 tons of
by-products such as benzol, ammonium sulphate, tar,
oil, etc. 50 miles of railroad tracks are within the plant
boundaries. The new power plant will have an output
of 500,000 horsepower. Manufacturing units produce
daily 7,000 Ford bodies, 500 Fordson Tractors and
30,000 square feet of plate glass.
