Where Golden Gate Park comes out upon the
Great Highway and Beach Esplanade, one finds the
Beach Chalet—the Sloop “Gjoa" and an Old Dutch
Windmill. The latter pumps water for Park irriga-
tion and is the largest Windmill in the world. The
Beach Chalet is a restaurant operated by the City
where dining is an inexpensive treat, either for
lunch, tea or dinner. If at Sunset Time, you view
a magnificent never to be forgotten sight of the sun
sinking into the Pacific Ocean. The “Gjoa", his-
toric vessel which Capt. Amundsen used in navigat-
ing the Northwest passage in 1908 is now beached
in a hollow, having been presented to the City by
the Captain on behalf of Norway.
