THE ESCALANTE is of steel and concrete
construction, built with wide, shady verandahs
of the impressive Old Mission style. It is named
after one of the Spaniards of the Conquest, Padre
Silvestre Velez Escalante, a pioneer Franciscan
priest, who journeyed through this country in
1776.
Ash Fork lies at an altitude of 5,129 feet.
