THE SUBWAY AND TUBES.
The Subways of New York relieve much of
the congestion formerly traveling over the
Brooklyn Bridge. The Tubes are constructed
through the heart of the business district,
cutting under large buildings. They are four
tracks wide, affording a local and express serv-
ice. The Hudson Tubes, operated from 34th
and Broadway under the Hudson River to New
Jersey points, reach as far as Newark.
