The famed military reservation of Fort Riley
with its 51,169 acres of beautiful countryside,
lies immediately east of Junction City, across
the Republican River. Established in 1852 as
a frontier military post, it has been in con-
tinuous operation ever since. Troops were
trained here for the Indian wars, the Spanish-
American War and both World Wars.
