On the night of December 16, 1773, American patriots boarded three merchant vessels in Boston Harbor and threw overboard 340 chests of tea to protest British "Taxation without Representation." As the first organized Colonial rebellion against the Mother Country, the Tea Party stands as "the single most important event leading to the American Revolution."
