A ring of cobblestones in front of the Old State House
marks the Revolution's first bloodshed. In 1770, British
Troops were so tormented by rock throwing demonstra-
tors that they fired into the crowd. Among the five colon-
ists killed was Crispus Attucks, the first black to die
for American Freedom.
