"The Rookery"
Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas
"The Rookery" is the oldest building on the
Post. It was constructed in 1834 and is
presently used as quarters for officers and
their families. The floor joists and some of
the partitions are made of hand-hewn logs.
The first Governor of Kansas Territory,
Andrew J. Reader, lived here in 1854.
