“GOLDEN GATE INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION”
This is the first official view of the Golden Gate Inter-
national Exposition Island, as it will appear in 1939.
The view is from the shore of Yerba Buena Island, look-
ing north.
In the immediate left foreground is a 110-foot cause-
way, serving as a boulevard approach from the San
Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. At the right is Exposi-
tion Harbor, 1500 feet wide and 3400 feet long, which
will be used for marine regattas.
The Exposition Administration building which will
serve as a future Airport Terminal, is the first building
to the right of the roadway. The main entrance to the
Exposition is half-way up the boulevard, with the Expo-
sition ferry terminal beyond.
To the extreme right are two airport hangars which
will serve as exhibit palaces, and behind the hangars is
the Lake of All Nations. Central unit of the two major
axes of the Exposition exhibit palaces is the 350-foot
Exposition tower in the center of the painting, made by
Chesley Bonestell, Berkeley artist.
