An old camp house, the first building
on the site of Dodge City, was built in 1871
by H. L. Sitler. Tom Nixon, shown stand-
ing in the doorway, was a buffalo hunter.
While Sheriff of Ford County, he was killed
in line of duty. This building stood south
of the railroad tracks between Second and
Third Avenues.
