ARVEY,
Boot Hill retains its name from the days
when Dodge City was "The Cowboy Capital",
being then the emergency burial grounds for
those wild characters who ran afoul the law
or were too slow on the draw. Those meet-
ing this fate were buried here fully clothed,
boots, guns, spurs and all, just as they fell.
In some instances the cowboys' saddles were
buried with
with them. Such famous peace-
officers as Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok,
Bill Tighlman, and others of their time, have
contributed to the silent population of Boot
Hill.
