ART PUBLISHERS TO THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING AND QUEEN,
THE CARLYLE HOUSE was erected by John S. Carlyle
in 1732. In 1755, the details of Braddock's expedition against
Fort Duquesne were arranged here by that unfortunate officer
and the governors of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia
and North Carolina. With the exception of one or two changes,
which time has rendered necessary, the room in which the con-
ferences took place remains as it then was.
