Wrightwood is located 6,000 feet high in Swartout Valley at the southern end of the San Gabriel Mountains. The mountains are pine covered with a number of year round camps in the area. The area is known for its winter sports with a number of ski lifts. The town was named for a Mr. Wright who homesteaded here. At one time a great number of bear was founded here. In act, Mr. Slover, for whom Mt. Slover in Colton was named for, was wounded by a bear in upper Lytle Canyon only to die from the injury.
