OVERFIELD TAVERN, Troy, Ohio. In 1807. Benjamin
Overfield built a tavern in front of his original cabin
on the bank of the Miami River, and was granted the
first tavern license in Troy. He offered his tavern as
a meeting place for the Petit and Grand Juries and
County Commissioners. The Overfield Tavern has the
distinction of being "one of the two log buildings
remaining in Ohio which served as first generation,
temporary courthouses”, according to the Ohio His-
torical Society.
