The Red Brick Tavern was erected in 1837, on U.S. 40,
half-way between Columbus & Springfield, Ohio.
During the Harrison-Van Buren presidential campaign,
both candidates were guests there. Van Buren drank
tea with the aristocracy of the neighborhood. Harri-
son arrived, ordered a round of drinks for every-
body; On election day voters indicated they had
more faith in a candidate who drank hard cidar
than one who drank tea.
