The main or general waiting room in the New
Union Station, Kansas City, has seats for 750
persons and standing space for many thousand. It
is eighty feet in height, its length is 410 feet and its
width 165 feet. Marble, stone and tile were used
for the finish. This waiting room is intended to þe
used only by outgoing passengers, incoming travel
using long passageways, or midways on either side
leading to the rotunda and to the Plaza on which
the station fronts. The trains pass under the
waiting room, and elevators as well as stairways
afford means to reach the platforms below.
