Journeying along through miles and miles of
desert one wonders at the vast, unmolested
forests of grim cactus, and sets out seeking the
purpose for which Nature intended it, but ends
by dreaming of the untold wealth that will come
to him who finds use for it.
Many efforts have been made to utilize the
cactus commercially but none has yet been
especially successful.
Its only purpose seemingly is to stand there,
unchanged by time, unflinching under the
burning sun, to relieve by the stingy shade of its
scanty branches the monotony of a parched
and thirsty land.
