The Catholic Church of St. Mary of the Assump-
tion was completed on Sept. 13, 1942, with a seating
capacity of 1,140 and was dedicated by the Most
Reverend C. E. Byrne, Bishop of Galveston. It is built
of Texas Limestone and designed in Gothic.
