ELASMOSAURUS
One of the Plesiosaurs, large marine reptiles
that lived during the late Cretaceous period,
70 million years ago. 50 feet long, weighing
8 to 10 tons, it had a huge turtle-like body
and a long snake-like neck and head. They
spent their lives in the water, coming out on
land to bask in the sun or lay their eggs, just
as the modern sea turtle does today. This life
size replica may be seen at the Prehistoric
Gardens on the Southern Oregon Coast on
Highway 101.
