THE BEGINNING OF A "GREAT IDEA" IN JUNE, 1903--Brother Paul (Left) Now a Monsignor
Priest, and Laurence (Right) who disturbed their Mother at home while she was baking and
ordered the boys out to play. They wandered to Mt. Penn, above their home, where the sight
inspired the boys to build "Roadside America." The Hotel was built by Henry J. Schwartz of
Reading, and the Railroad by the Mt. Penn Gravity R. R., the engines was purchased from New
York's 6th Avenue Elevated Line. The engines pulled the cars 2 miles up to the Summit Hotel
from there the cars ran down the mountain for 6 miles by gravity--Made stops at wine houses.
