statesman, and poet, ex-Senator Lewis H. Larsen of Utah. Artist tone
GERMAN SHEPHERD, a working dog; commonly
known as Police dogs. Originated in Germany dur-
ing the 19th century. Average height is 22 to 26
inches. They were introduced into the United States
in 1912, and gained great fame during World Wars
I and II, as patrol and messenger dogs. Their smart-
ness, dependability and responsiveness to training
have placed them among the best seeing-eye dogs.
