THE ROOSEVELT EXPEDITION. The party is
called the Smithsonian African Expedition and has the
object of securing specimens of the fauna and flora of
mid- Africa. - J. Alden Loring is an expert collector of
small mammals and birds. Edmund Heller, another
member of the party, is a trained naturalist and was
with the Field Columbian Expedition. Col. Edgar
Mearns is a physician and retired officer of the regular
army and is an authority on zoology and botany. Ker-
mit Roosevelt is the official photographer. R. J. Cun-
ninghame, guide and manager, is a noted English
hunter. É. C. Selous, a noted African hunter, also
spent some time with the party.
