The Golden Plover (charadrius pluvialis) is a migra-
tory visitor to England, calling there on its way southward in
the late summer and again on the return journey in March ;
only very few specimens being found there all the year
round. The average length is about 10 inches. The eggs
number 4 and are laid in a lined hollow in the ground.
