“BRITISH BIRDS AND THEIR EGGS.” Series III.
Raphaol Tuck & Sons' "AQUARETTE" [Regd.) Postcard 9519.
The Bullfinch (Pyrrhula europoea). This handsome
finch is a resident of the British Isles, and is a favourite
cage-bird. Its natural song is by no means loud nor
beautiful, but it can be taught to pipe an air sweetly and
correctly, a well-trained Piping Bullfinch being a valuable
bird. The male has a black crown and a brick-coloured
breast, while the female's breast is brown. They build a
flat nest of small twigs with a cup of rootlets and feathers
and sometimes wool. The eggs, from four to six in number,
are greenish blue, blotched a streaked brown.
