Over the entrance is the original coat of arms of Spain,
w with an inscription which is translated:
“Don Fernandez the Sixth being King of Spain, and the
Field Marshal Don Alonzo Fernandez de Herreda, Guvernor
and Captain General of the city of St. Augustine, Fla., and its
province. This fortress was finished in the year 1756. The
works were directed by the captain engineer, Don Pedro de
Brazas y Garay,
