ASCOLI PICENO, every period' left its traces there,
the old encircling walls are pre-Roman, to which
add the Roman ones, with «Porta Gemina ». There
are the ruins of the Capitol and those of the Roman
Theatre, The bridge of « Porta Cappuccina » date,
from Augustus and « Palazzo Longobardo ». from
the early Middle Ages. There are the Medieval
« nobles towers », giving Ascoli a particularly ori-
ginal appearence. The Cathedral, the Baptistery
(13th cent.) and many other monuments can also
be visited. There is a Youth Hostel.
FERMO, of very ancient origin; the view from
« Piazza Girfalco » with a 12th century Gothic fa-
cade is especially beautiful. There are, then, very
ancient, huge water tanks.
SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO, a delightful, first
class bathing resort, renowned for its fish market
and the beautiful sea front promenade. There is a
camping site.
PORTO SAN GIORGIO, has picturesque shady
alleys, a well catered for beach, and tennis-courts.

GROTTAMMARE, a lovely, picturesque bathing
resort.
ACQUASANTA TERME, a much frequented ther-
mal resort, with modern installations for arthritis
and other ailments treatment, and a natural steam
cave of great interest and beauty.
ARQUATA DEL TRONTO, (2500 ft), with a fine
castle built by Queen Joan Il, it is a winter and
summer resot.
