This tribute to the great discoverer and
navigator, standing at the intersection of
59th Street and Broadway, was erected by
volunteer contributions of the “Italian resi-
dents in America.”
At this point I began to meet the crowds
of Broadway that continually increased un-
til near the Battery, and that became so
dense as to utterly preclude the possibility
of taking other illustrations on
on the first
day's drive down t-e great White Way.
The beautiful bac.ground of forest and
foliage gives a glimpse of the famous Cen-
tral Park, than which no finer pleasure-
ground is found in any city.
