THE FIRST ADVENTURE
by Elizabeth Coatsworth
The murals on the walls of the Pilgrim Room depict the exciting
story of young Johnny Billington of Plymouth colony who arrived
in the new World on the Mayflower in 1620. The Murals deal
with Johnny's ventures into the woods with his dog Trojan and
show how this experience developed into more than just a small
boy's adventures. Johnny's eventual association with the Indians
and return to the colony played a large part in bringing about
trading relations between the Indians and the Settlers. These ro-
mantic events can be traced in the colorful Murals on the walls
of the Pilgrim Room.
