Worthy of the Nation's Capital"; founded in 1880 at 705 Market Space,
by S. W. Woodward and A. M. Lothrop. The first store contained
1,700 square feet of floor_space. Within one year the firm moved to
larger quarters at 921 Pennsylvania Avenue. In 1887, a building
of 30,000 square feet was acquired at Ilth and F 'Streets. The
store now occupies practically an entire block and contains. 520,300
square feet of floor space. In addition, a large modern Service and
Warehouse Building is located at 131'M Street, N. E., containing
433,731 square feet of floor space.
