The White Sands of the White Sands National
Monument, 17 miles south of Alamogordo, New
Mexico, on Hiway U. S. 70, between Las Cruces
and Alamogordo. One of the world's strangest
and most spectacular deserts. Not white sand
actually, rather pure white Gypsum in the world's
largest surface deposit. These gigantic dunes
sometimes reach heights of 50 feet.
