FORT McHENRY NATIONAL MONUMENT
Baltimore, Maryland
The repulse of a British naval attack against this
fort in the War of 1812 prevented the capture of
Baltimore and inspired Francis Scott Key to write
the "Star-Spangled Banner", after viewing the
bombardment while being held aboard one of the
enemy's ships. Across the Patapsco River lies the
Canton section of Baltimore's port.
