I contacted polio at the age of 5 months, at the age of 12 I went to Los Angeles, Ca for treatment at the Shriners Hospital, coming from my country of Ecuador, I did not speak a word of English. At the hospital everyone was so nice and welcoming, I made many friends and just love being there, I learned to saw, we went to school, the Shriners were wonderful to all of us, birthday cakes every month of the year, many presents for Christmas, I was there every year from 1965 to 1968. I cherish every memory, it completely shape my life for the better. I could go on and on talking about how wonderful it was. They gave my a future. If anyone is there from that period of time, I would love to ge in touch, I have lived in Wisconsin for 47 years married to a wonderful man from this area, we have 2 daughters (both married, and have 3 children each, in total 6 grandchildren and a beautiful life! Thanks again my Shriner family.
