Additional Details:
This family was founded in the 13th century. Their ancestor obtained a grant of part of the lands of Buchanan, in Stirlingshire, from the powerful Earl of Lennox, and he took his name from his holding. The lands lie near Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine and now belong to the Duke of Montrose. The principal line has become extinct. Their war cry was "Clar Innis," an island in Loch Lomond, and the badge "Bilberry" or "Oak."
