The Old Curiosity Shop
Additional Details:
The Old Curiosity Shop. Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870) was not born in London, but came to it at an early age and many of his heroes and heroines are identified with it. How far the old building is connected with the novel of that name, we know not, but Dickens-lovers may like to know that a few steps away in Lincoln's Inn fields at Forster's house (No. 58) Dickens read "The chimes" to a brilliant group of friends including Thomas Carlyle (Dec. 2nd, 1844). |
