| This, the Lion's Gate (so called from the Royal Menagerie of lions having once been kept here), is the public, and principal entrance to the Tower of London. Here is the Ticket Office on the right, and here the first glimpse is caught of the picturesquely clad Beefeaters or Yeomen of the Guard. The moat is crossed by a stone bridge flanked at either end by the Byward and the Middle Towers. |
