THE TOWER OF LONDON is an imposing pile
of buildings, built on the site of a former Saxon
stronghold by William the Conqueror in 1078, who in
that year built the central keep or White Tower.
Various kings have considerably added to its propor-
tions until now it covers 13 acres of ground. Its
history is most interesting.
