Sandown is a delightful seaside resort in the centre of
Sandown Bay on the south-west side of the Isle of Wight.
It is par excellence the bathing-place of the Island, its
level, sloping, and sandy beach rendering this both
safe and pleasurable. There is a good esplanade three-
quarters of a mile long, and a fine pier which juts out into
the sea for nearly a thousand yards. The Kursaal, opened
in 1905, has one of the most charmingly situated and
arranged concert rooms on the south coast.
