During the battle of Missionary Ridge 1863.
- The place where Gen. Bragg, one of the Con-
z federate leaders, had his headquarters, and from
which be viewed the battle of Missionary Ridge,
in November, 1863, is marked by a steel obser-
vatory tower. The headquarters were in a small
house on the summit of the ridge, directly in
front of Orchard Knob. Here is also located the
Illinois State Monument.
