Mill Race Inn
Where the Fox River Flows Under the
Bridge at Geneva, Illinois
Let us tell you something of the history of MILL RACE INN. The main, or Stone
Room as we call it, was built as the village blacksmith shop in 1842. It adjoined
the mill so that farmers' horses might be shod while errands were being done. The
depth of the thick walls indicates the age of the building. The location was then
called Herrington's Ford.
Perhaps you wonder what a MILL RACE is, and why our place is so named. A mill
race is that part of a stream, or river, diverted to go over the mill wheel, turning
it to provide the power necessary to keep the machinery moving.
The name MILL RACE INN was given 30 years ago, to this more than a century
old building whose hospitality, scenery, and food are provided for your enjoyment.
