Back:
NEW ENGLAND during the 1700s produced men of courage and strength, who loved the
sea for its romance, adventure and danger. They were also skilled in the art of ship
building, and produced maritime works that are still the wonder and admiration of the world.
New Englanders sailed these vessels to the four corners of the earth, returning to
the ports of Salem, Newburyport, Portsmouth, Marblehead and Boston laden with the wealth
of all nations.
Their gallant deeds were accomplished against almost insurmountable odds, and it
is natural, therefore, that descendants of these sailors and merchants constantly strive
to learn more about the building, rigging and sailing of these ships of yester-year.
It is this same historical interest in our heritage that has led to the building of
THE SHIP - an American Brigantine which is probably the first square-rigged vessel
constructed in more than 100 years.
The Captain and Crew of THE SHIP welcome you aboard, invite your inspection and
hope that your voyage with rations of food and drink are enjoyed to the fullest.
