| Of the original Cathedral (A. D. 1084) Little remains. The major part of the present edifice was built 1224 to 1400. It is cruciform with double transepts, the total length being 425 feet. During the Civil War the Cathedral Suffered great damage, but from 1700 until modern times restorations have been carried out with great success. The interior cont in a number of interesting monuments including the Tomb of King John. |
