Named in honor of the famous Cheyenne Indian, Chief
Black Kettle. Chief Black Kettle was killed in the battle
of the Waa by Col. Custer's 7th Cavalry. Chief Black
Kettle had a dream in which he saw a wolf with blood
15
on its face so he said, "Indian would die' and sent
some of his tribe east for safety. After the battle of
the Waa some of his tribe came back to bury him.
The wolves had eaten part of the flesh so he was 29
buried in the ground, although it was the custom to
bury in trees.
