Designed by Ray Lohr in the Erie, Pennsylvania Marx factory,
the original Big Wheel was released by Louis Marx & Co at
the New York Toy Fair in 1969.
The Big Wheel became one of the most popular toys of the
1970's with reports that the Glen Dale Marx factory could
produce over 7,000 Big Wheels per day in preparation for the
Christmas season.
Marx produced several versions of the Big Wheel in various
sizes and colors, but the memories are consistent...360 spins,
a worn front wheel, and “clicking” tires.
Today the Big Wheel is ranked
as one of the top toys of all
time and the 16" front wheel
created one of the most
recognizable household brand
names in history!
