DEFENDERS OF AMERICA*
THE USAF IM-99 BOMARC LEAVING LAUNCHING PAD
The USAF IM-99 BOMARC is a supersonic, rocket-launched ground-to-air Missile
which will permit the Air Defense Command to engage and destroy enemy aircraft far
out from intended target. Its range is over 200 miles, permitting defense of large areas.
Manufactured by Boeing. Its wingspan is 18 ft., length 47 ft. and diameter 35 inches. It
weighs about 15,000 pounds. Its Marquardt twin-ram-jet engines carry it to an altitude
of 60,000 ft. at supersonic speed. The BOMARC has been fired on orders from a SAGE
control center nearly 1,500 miles from the launching site, successfully intercepting sub-
sonic and supersonic drone targets.
