THE “NIKE-AJAX" GUIDED MISSILE
The NIKE-AJAX is the Army's first supersonic antiaircraft guided missile
designed to intercept and destroy the enemy target regardless of evasive
action. The NIKE-AJAX is a missile about 20 feet long and about 1 foot
in diameter, with two sets of fins for guidance and steering. It is boosted
to supersonic velocity by a solid-propellant booster and maintained by a
liquid sustainer motor. The missile and booster weigh more than one ton.
The Speed, range, altitude and lethality of the NIKE-AJAX can meet and
attack from any direction and its kill potential has far exceeded expectations.
