One of the “Big Four” of colored boxers
and one of the best. Jeannette was born in
1881; height, 5 feet 10 inches; weight, 190
pounds; color, black. He met the best men
of his class and also many white stars.
Jeannette boxed Carpentier in France in
1915 and won after 15 rounds of hard bat-
